Writing Rules
General Principles
1. The Journal of Turkish Folklore Studies Association is a double-blind peer-reviewed scientific/academic journal published electronically in two issues per year (January-July). If necessary, special or additional issues may be published in addition to these issues. Article acceptance dates are July 1 - October 1 for the January issue; January 1 - April 1 for the July issue. Applications received after these dates will not be accepted. If a sufficient number of articles reach the journal, article acceptance may be stopped before these dates.
2. The journal generally publishes original, methodological articles in the basic fields of folklore, anthropology, literature and other social sciences related to these fields.
3. Texts sent to the journal should not have been previously published elsewhere or sent to a journal for publication. Texts produced from postgraduate theses and symposium proceedings can be uploaded to the journal system by including an ethical statement at the beginning of the article. Example: This study was prepared based on the doctoral thesis titled … submitted/completed on …. /This article is extracted from my doctorate dissertation entitled “…”, (Master Thesis/PhD Dissertation, ….. University, Ankara/Türkiye, 2020).
4. In studies requiring ethics committee approval, ethics committee approval must be obtained and this approval (board name, date and issue number) must be stated on the first page of the study and in the method section. Ethics committee approval must be uploaded to the system as an additional file when submitting an article. For studies requiring ethics committee approval, please review the journal's Ethical Principles and Publication Policy.
5. Studies are checked for plagiarism using iThenticat, Turnitin, intihal.net software. The maximum similarity rate in our journal is accepted as 15%.
6. For studies with more than one author, a conflict of interest and author contribution rate declaration form must be filled out and uploaded to the system. Click for the conflict of interest and author contribution declaration form.
7. Turkish and English articles can be published in the journal. A maximum of one study by the same author can be published in an issue. In special issues or exceptional cases, the Journal Management may apply different practices.
8. The word count in articles (including title, author information, abstract, bibliography and notes) must be between 3000-10000. Book reviews must not exceed 2000 words.
9. In Turkish articles, there should be 150-250 Turkish abstracts; at least 250 words in English abstracts; in English articles, there should be 150-250 words in English and Turkish abstracts; each article should have between 3- 5 keywords. Keywords should be listed from general to specific.
10. There should be no citations, quotes or transfers in the abstract section; the purpose of the research, method, information about the data and the results/contributions obtained are stated.
11. The article can be written using the journal article template or the existing text can be transferred to the template. Studies that do not use the article template will not be evaluated.
12. The article is reviewed once for compliance with the journal's writing principles, and if the requested changes are not made, it is rejected and is not processed again in the same publication period.
Main body:
This is the main part of the article and is usually divided into different sub-sections, numbered, to clearly show the content to be covered to the reader. It includes the methodology used to conduct the research, the results, the analysis and the discussion. Journal articles are written by experts in their fields. An original article contains in-depth information and analysis about existing research. The author(s) should present or refer to evidence supporting the conclusions reached in the article.Except for the Introduction and Conclusion sections, other headings should be numbered with their top and bottom arrangements.
Method:
Methods should be used to collect the data; the qualitative or quantitative nature of the data should be clearly stated. Other options may include surveys, interviews or field research. In theory, a clear methodology should allow others to repeat and evaluate the original research. Methodological explanations in the main text should be kept limited. Repeating known, widespread systematics may lead to the rejection of the article.
Discussion:
In this section, the author focuses on discussing the results of the research conducted on the research question. In general, this section will include how the results relate to the question asked and the implications of these results.
Conclusion:
The conclusion section should bring everything together and reinforce the author's point of view. The results should be presented in a logical order. In general, this will be in order of importance, not in the order in which the research was conducted.
References:
This section includes a list of all sources cited by the author in the article. Recent research and publications on the subject should definitely be seen, and the necessary ones should be cited and included in the References. This section includes an alphabetical list of all sources cited by the author in the article. Sources that are not included in the main text are not included. The sources are organized in accordance with APA 7 (American Psychological Association) standards.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE POLICY
The purpose of our principles and rules regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in articles submitted to our journal is to establish ethical, scientific, and technical standards for the use of AI technologies in publications. Our fundamental objectives are to ensure that AI-based technologies are used transparently, accurately, and impartially in academic work, to uphold academic integrity, and to prioritise individual creativity in a scientific context. As a general principle, TFA has adopted that artificial intelligence tools may only be used in articles submitted to the journal to check grammar, spelling errors, and stylistic consistency.
Our journal undertakes not to use artificial intelligence tools at any stage of the article evaluation process.
The TFA journal adopts the principles of the Ethical Guidelines for the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence prepared by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
The following principles and rules may be amended and revised in line with current changes and developments.
General Principles
- Ethical Use: Artificial intelligence technologies may be used as an auxiliary tool in technical areas such as grammar, spelling errors, and stylistic consistency. However, the use of artificial intelligence in the processes of producing, analysing, and interpreting academic content is entirely the responsibility of the author.
- Transparency: Authors are obliged to clearly state in their articles at which stages and how artificial intelligence was used. This statement should be included in the ethics statement section of the article.
- Accuracy: The accuracy of data generated or analysed by artificial intelligence must be verified through sources. The author is responsible for any incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information.
- Impartiality: Artificial intelligence technologies must be used impartially. To prevent potential conflicts of interest, authors must be transparent and clearly state such situations in their ethical declarations.
- Privacy and Security: The privacy and security of personal data are paramount in the use of artificial intelligence. Data collection, storage, and processing must comply with privacy principles.
- Citation: Artificial intelligence should not be cited in the Notes and References section. The use of artificial intelligence should be stated in the ethical statement section at the end of our articles.
Ultimately, authors are responsible for the content of their work. This includes accountability for the following:
a- Carefully reviewing and verifying the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and impartiality of all outputs generated by artificial intelligence (including checking sources, as references generated by artificial intelligence may be incorrect or fabricated).
b- Thoroughly editing and adapting all material to ensure it represents the author's original and unique contribution and reflects their own analysis, commentary, insights, and ideas.
c- Ensure that the use of any artificial intelligence-based or other tools or resources is clearly and transparently disclosed to readers — we require a disclosure statement at the time of submission for the use of artificial intelligence tools.
d- Ensure that any artificial intelligence tools used are developed in a manner that protects the article's data privacy, intellectual property, and other rights by checking their terms and conditions.
e- Reviewers and Editors: The journal management checks whether the use of artificial intelligence complies with the established ethical standards and makes the necessary assessments.
